Teeth whitening in Champaign, IL
Whiter teeth, without the guesswork
Professional whitening at Q Dental uses the KöR system, with custom trays made from a digital impression of your teeth. Two visits to get started, and we tell you up front what whitening can and can't fix.

Your options
Pick the whitening that fits your teeth and your schedule
We offer the full KöR lineup plus a simpler take-home option. At your consult, we look at what's causing the color and recommend one, not all of them.
Most patients
KöR Home
Custom-fit trays you wear at home with KöR whitening gel. The trays are made from a digital impression, so the gel stays on your teeth instead of leaking onto your gums.
- Two visits: digital impression, then tray delivery and instructions
- Whitening happens at home on your schedule
- Trays are yours to keep for touch-ups
Stubborn stains
KöR Max and KöR Ultra
The same custom trays and home gel, plus in-office whitening sessions for deeper or more resistant discoloration. KöR Ultra-T is the version made for tetracycline staining.
- Starts with the same two visits, then adds in-office sessions
- For teeth that haven't responded to store-bought or previous whitening
- We'll tell you at the consult whether you need this level
Simple and quick
Opalescence Go
Pre-filled, disposable whitening trays you can start the same day. No impressions, no custom trays. A good fit for a quick brightening before an event, or to try whitening before committing to KöR.
- No impression visit needed
- Take it home from your appointment
- Less customized, so results are milder than KöR
How it works
What to expect
1
Consult and digital impression
We check that your teeth and gums are healthy enough to whiten, look at what's causing the color, and recommend an option. If you're going with KöR, we take a digital impression the same visit. No goopy trays.
2
Tray delivery and instructions
You pick up your custom trays and gel, and we walk you through exactly how to wear them, for how long, and what to expect. Opalescence Go patients skip this step and leave with trays at the first visit.
3
Results and touch-ups
Whitening happens at home over the following weeks, or in the office for KöR Max and Ultra. Afterward, periodic touch-ups keep the color, usually at least once a year, depending on how much coffee and tea you drink.
Straight talk
What whitening can't fix
Whitening changes the color of your natural tooth structure. It doesn't change shape, spacing, or the color of existing dental work. If one of these is what's bothering you, we'll say so at the consult and point you to the right fix instead of selling you whitening that won't get you there.
- Crowns, veneers, and fillings don't whiten. If you have them on your front teeth, they may stand out after whitening.
- Chips, gaps, and uneven edges are a job for dental bonding.
- Teeth that stay dark after whitening, or a single dark tooth, usually point to veneers.
- Cavities and gum disease get treated first. Whitening over an active problem makes it worse.

Questions
Teeth whitening questions, answered
Does teeth whitening hurt?
Some sensitivity during and after whitening is normal, and it goes away. We always recommend a sensitivity toothpaste afterward, and we'll adjust your wear schedule if your teeth are sensitive to begin with.
How long does whitening take?
KöR starts with two visits: a digital impression, then tray delivery and instructions. From there you whiten at home over the following weeks. KöR Max and Ultra add in-office sessions. Opalescence Go is a take-home option you can start the day of your visit.
How long do the results last?
It depends on your habits. Coffee, tea, red wine, and smoking bring color back faster. Most patients need periodic touch-ups, and we typically recommend at least once a year. Because you keep your KöR trays, a touch-up is just more gel, not a new set of trays.
Is professional whitening better than whitening strips?
Strips and over-the-counter kits work on mild surface staining for some people. Professional whitening uses stronger gel in trays made for your teeth, so it covers every tooth evenly and reaches stains the strips miss. If you've tried strips and weren't happy, that's a good sign KöR will do what they couldn't.
Will whitening work on my teeth?
Yellow and brown staining responds best. Gray, banded, or tetracycline-stained teeth are harder, which is what KöR Ultra and Ultra-T are made for. Teeth that are dark because of a dead nerve, or dental work like crowns and veneers, don't whiten. We'll tell you at the consult which group you're in.
Can I whiten if I have crowns or veneers?
You can whiten the natural teeth around them, but the crowns and veneers stay the color they are. If they're on your front teeth, we'll talk through whether whitening will make them stand out and what your options are.
How much does teeth whitening cost?
It depends on which option fits you, so we don't give a single number online. You get a written estimate at your consult, and we offer financing options for larger cosmetic plans.
Does insurance cover whitening?
Whitening is cosmetic, so dental insurance doesn't cover it. HSA and FSA accounts sometimes can. Our insurance and financing page explains how we handle both.
