Re-polishing may help restore some of the color and removes some of the surface staining. Bonding typically lasts 5–10 years before it needs to be redone. The tradeoff: bonding is less expensive than veneers, doesn't require enamel removal, and can be redone. Veneers stain less but cost more and require permanent enamel reduction. Always before. Here's why: veneers and bonding are color-matched to your natural teeth at the time they're made, and they can't be whitened later. Whatever shade your teeth are when we make the veneer is the shade you're locked into. So we whiten first, let the color stabilize for 2–3 weeks, then design the restorations to match the new lighter shade. If you whiten after, your natural teeth will end up brighter than the veneers, and the mismatch is hard to fix.
